Dozens of retirees from SEBS and the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station, along with their guests, joined current deans, faculty, staff, and students in the Rectangle Room at Neilson Dining Hall on Thursday, December 8, 2022. Guests arrived to a warm welcome from SEBS student ambassadors and current staff, and immediately began reconnecting and taking pictures.
Soon, guests were able to help themselves to a buffet lunch, featuring chicken Francaise, grilled salmon, and penne marinara from Rutgers Dining Services. The room was vibrant with friendly talk and reminiscing as guests moved around the room to greet colleagues they had not seen for quite a while.
After lunch, Executive Dean Laura Lawson, director of Research Wendie Cohick, director of Cooperative Extension Brian Schilling CC’92, GSNB’94, ’09, and dean of Academic Programs Tom Leustek NCAS’81, GSNB’83, ’87 brought everyone up to speed on what’s going on at SEBS and NJAES.
“I always look forward to returning to Rutgers each year for the annual faculty and staff holiday party,” said Lou Iozzi, former Dean of Academic and Student Affairs and retired professor of environmental resources and education. “It’s fun to see and chat with old colleagues, but also a bit sad to learn that some are no longer with us. Learning about the current activities, projects, and programs from the administrators is an added bonus. This event makes us feel like we are still a part of the Cook family.”
The afternoon concluded with coffee and dessert and guests were able to take a decorative poinsettia from Rutgers Floriculture Greenhouse home with them to help celebrate the holidays.
