Rutgers Cooperative Extension (RCE), a unit of New Jersey Agricultural Extension Station (NJAES), has unveiled a new urban gardening webinar series in Spanish, titled “El Huerto Urbano.” This series, which are offered free on Mondays, started on July 12 and runs through August 9. It consists of live webinars presented by RCE & NJAES experts on a range of gardening topics each week. The series is geared towards beginner gardeners interested in learning how to grow a vegetable garden in urban spaces. The livestreamed presentations are for adults, but gardening activities for the whole family will be covered.
The interactive online sessions begin at 6:30 p.m. and participants are able to ask questions of the Rutgers experts. Topics ranging from planning a vegetable garden to extending the growing season and how to improve the soil in the vegetable garden via composting will be covered over the course of the five weekly sessions.
Cecilia Diaz, agronomist and program associate with RCE of Passaic County, led the inaugural series with a presentation on planning a vegetable garden in urban spaces.
These free virtual sessions, conducted in Spanish, run for one hour and are held live via Zoom. Participants must register to join at https://go.rutgers.edu/ryl9mwd9.
