Announcement from Sara Elnakib, chair of the Department of Family and Community Health Sciences.
Please welcome Shailja Mathur, the new Family and Community Health Sciences (FCHS) Educator in Somerset County, who will be part of the Chronic Disease Prevention and Management working group within FCHS.
Shailja is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Certified Lifestyle Coach, Certified High School Science teacher and a Diabetes advocate. She has provided leadership to nutrition education outreach projects on behalf of Rutgers Cooperative Extension at national, state and county levels for 20 years.
As a public health Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, her recent focus has been on wellness and chronic disease prevention programming on behalf of the department.
She is an elected Board member of the Middlesex County Health and Wellness Council and a Community Liaison for the Rutgers Medical School SATHI initiative and is the recipient of the 2018 NEAFCS National Diversity Award. She has also been honored by Rutgers Cooperative Extension and received the RCE Diversity Award for her commitment to the field of nutrition and dietetics and service to the diverse population in New Jersey.
Shailja is passionate about both teaching and learning and hopes to continue to positively impact the lives of New Jersey residents in areas of healthy living and chronic disease prevention.
