Rutgers Cooperative Extension (RCE), a unit of New Jersey Agricultural Extension Station (NJAES), has announced new sessions in its urban gardening webinar series conducted in Spanish, titled “El Huerto Urbano.” The sessions, which are offered free on Wednesday evenings, start on March 30.
The series consists of live webinars presented each month by RCE & NJAES experts on a range of gardening topics. The series is geared towards beginner gardeners interested in learning how to grow a vegetable garden in urban spaces. The livestreamed presentations are for adults, but gardening activities for the whole family will be covered.
The interactive online sessions begin at 6 p.m. and participants are able to ask questions of the Rutgers experts. Topics ranging from planning a vegetable garden to extending the growing season will be covered over the course of the six sessions. A session on how to improve the soil in the vegetable garden via composting will also be covered in the webinar series.
Cecilia Diaz, agronomist and program associate with RCE of Passaic County, and Claudia Urdanivia, Hudson County 4-H, are collaborating to present the series, which was launched in 2021.
The free virtual sessions, conducted in Spanish, will last one hour and will be held via Zoom. Participants must register to join at https://go.rutgers.edu/j51nvb3l.
