Matthew Smith (SEBS ’14) is an army veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan and, upon returning home, found his calling and his health by obtaining access to fresh wholesome local foods. Now an Agricultural Sciences major at Rutgers School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, Smith further immersed in community agriculture through an internship at New Brunswick Community Farmers Market.
Former Marine George Madosky found his passion as a nurseryman, and is now engaging other veterans through his involvement as a Rutgers Master Gardener in a horticultural therapy program.
Edible Jersey magazine visited with Smith and Madosky, who reflect on their transition from army green to growing green. Read more from the Holiday 2013 issue of Edible Jersey.
