Three teams of undergraduate students, all members of the Rutgers Turf Club, competed in the 2013 Turf Bowl Competition at the International Golf Course Superintendents Association of America Conference and Trade Show in San Diego, CA, in February.

Rutgers team celebrates top 10 win in annual Turf Bowl
The teams, which were comprised of four students each, placed 6th, 14th, and 44th out of 68 university teams drawn from across the U.S. and Canada. This is the first top 10 finish for a Rutgers team in this annual prestigious academic competition. The 12 Rutgers undergraduates who made up this year’s participants were Tyler Astor, Greg Benz, Michael Chikos, Ryan Daddio, Nicholas Delmar, Kyle Genova, Kenneth MacNish, Mike Monzon, Jianlong Sun, Yuanshuo Qu, Lingcheng Zeng, and Lorabeth West.
Helping the students prepare for this year’s competition were Rich Hurley, adjunct professor in the department of Plant Biology and Pathology, Sabrina Tirpak, principal lab technician of the Rutgers Plant Diagnostic Laboratory, and Bruce Clarke, extension specialist in the Department of Plant Biology and Pathology and director of the Rutgers Center for Turfgrass Science.
