The Fifth National Climate Assessment, the U.S. Government’s preeminent report on climate change impacts, risk, and responses was released by President Biden on November 15, 2023. The report is mandated by Congress and assesses changes in the climate, its national and regional impacts, and options for reducing present and future risk. NPR mentions this assessment is “the most sweeping, sophisticated federal analysis of climate change compiled to date.” Several Rutgers experts, including Rutgers Climate and Energy Institute (RCEI) faculty affiliates and Rutgers graduate students have played an important role in the report’s development.
