Please welcome Ricardo Kairios, who joins Rutgers Cooperative Extension as a Family and Community Health Sciences Educator for Mercer County,. He will be part of the Community Food Systems working group within FCHS.
Ricardo has more than 10 years of experience in community nutrition and working with diverse populations with limited financial resources. Prior to joining FCHS, Ricardo served as a Senior Program Coordinator for the New Jersey Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program in Essex, Passaic, and Hudson counties. He previously served as the Food Service Coordinator for the Head Start/Early Head Start of Middlesex County.
Ricardo’s career has focused on a wide range of health promotion topics related to dietary quality, physical activity, food safety and security, food resources management, sustainable eating practices and urban agriculture. He earned a bachelors’ degree in Nutrition and Food Sciences from Montclair State University and a master’s degree in Nutritional Sciences from Rutgers.
He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Acelero Learning, Head Start/Early Head Start of Middlesex and Monmouth counties and is an active member of the Society of Nutrition Education, serving as the chair-elect for the Division of Sustainable Food Systems and member of the Advisory Committee on Public Policy.
Ricardo is committed to community development, health equity, food justice, education and instilling inclusive practices.
