Close to 50 Girl Scout Cadettes will join Rutgers faculty, staff and students in an event on Dec. 15 that connects the middle school girls with research currently being done on board the research vessel JOIDES Resolution, now sailing in the Pacific Ocean. The JOIDES Resolution is an ocean-drilling vessel that supports climate change, geology, microbiology, and earthquake research. In the spring of 2012, members of Rutgers University’s Education and Outreach Group, in partnership with groups in New York and Virginia, received a grant from the Consortium for Ocean Leadership and the National Science Foundation to identify the best practices for using the JOIDES Resolution as a platform for science education outside formal school settings.
