Announcement from Executive Dean Laura Lawson, School of Environmental and Biological Sciences
I am delighted to share exciting news about our efforts to expand international research, teaching, and outreach opportunities, and support our international students. The Office of International Programs at SEBS will now be the Office of Global Engagement, and Megan Francis will serve as its director.
The Office of Global Engagement will support the SEBS community on internationalizing the student and faculty experience, and increasing community outreach and engagement. Under Megan’s leadership, the office will focus on new trends in global education by embracing new partnership models, building pathways to engage our student community, increasing alumni engagement, and working with faculty to build even stronger systems of support for the development of internationally focused curriculum, research, and outreach. The office will work closely with Rutgers Global in supporting their efforts to expand global opportunities for all of Rutgers–New Brunswick. Megan will also work closely with Troy Roepke, SEBS Associate Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, to create a globally inclusive campus environment.
Megan has been an essential member of SEBS since 2012, when she joined the Office of International Programs. In her first week, which coincided with Hurricane Sandy, she immediately jumped in to assist international students facing housing emergencies. She hasn’t slowed down since. During her time with SEBS, she has increased student scholarship distribution and international student support, grown campus programming, encouraged and supported faculty efforts to develop study abroad opportunities, secured new partnerships for relevant study abroad experiences for our students, managed a recruitment portfolio to increase the international pipeline, and developed and maintained our 2+2 and 3+2 programs.
The Office of Global Engagement is located in the Food Science and Nutritional Sciences Building, Room 122. This suite will house both the Office of Global Engagement and the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. The sign hasn’t been changed as yet, but the work is already underway! Please stay tuned for future announcements of events and opportunities to engage with both offices.
