The Women’s League of Rutgers University was established in 1932 and since 1983 has been giving scholarships to Rutgers New Brunswick undergraduate students who demonstrate academic excellence, a commitment to public service and financial need.
On Sunday, November 8th the Women’s League of Rutgers University (WLRU) recognized and introduced the recipients of their 2020-2021 scholarship awards.
Typically a campus event, the presentation was held via zoom and honored two SEBS students: Issam Eljitan and Maria Carpio Guevara.
Maria A. Guevara Carpio (SEBS ’21) is a senior majoring in public health with a minor in business administration. She is a McNair Scholar, is part of the Rutgers Bonner Leaders Program where she worked with the New Brunswick Community Farmers Market, and lives in Helyar House. A first generation student, Maria is applying to graduate school for social work. Maria was recently profiled in the Newsroom as part of Hispanic Heritage Month.
Issam O. Eljitan (SEBS ’21) is a senior majoring in exercise science with a minor in psychology. In his second year he became a resident assistant. He belongs to the Kinesiology and Health Club, volunteers at Specialized Children’s Hospital, did an internship in physical therapy, is applying to graduate school for physical therapy and is interested in a career in youth physical therapy. Issam could not attend the virtual ceremony due to work obligations.
