Do you think we finally made it? Can it really be spring that we sense in the air now that the glaciers in our backyards have finally receded?… One of the major outreach assistance programs all county programs offer is the Garden Helpline. Rutgers Master Gardeners are trained volunteers who can provide materials and information necessary to obtain a proper soil sample for analysis from Rutgers’ labs, soil pH testing, lawn care and plant, tree and shrub identification, advice about the right plant for the right place and recommendations on deer resistant plant material. With suitable samples and the answers to questions they may ask you, the Rutgers Master Gardeners can also trained to diagnose plant diseases, identify insects, weeds and other pests of the home and garden and give advice about cultural recommendations for their control, all following techniques suitable for implementing Integrated Pest Management.
