June is the Month of the Horse at the Monmouth County Library. Each year, the library holds special programs for all ages. This annual observance provides an opportunity to focus on New Jersey’s state animal and the recreational, economic, social and therapeutic benefits provided by the equine industry, according to a press release…A recent Rutgers University Equine Science Center study shows that there are 7,200 equine facilities on 176,000 acres and 42,500 equine animals in New Jersey. The horse was proclaimed the state animal by the Legislature in 1977. In May 1998, former Gov. Christine Todd Whitman proclaimed June as the Month of the Horse.
