Last week’s heat wave in New Jersey was not very noteworthy, although the mercury hit 100 degrees in Point Pleasant Friday, according to the state climatologist. That’s "quite remarkable," David A. Robinson, the New Jersey state climatologist at Rutgers University, said in an email. Areas farther down the coast had temperatures mostly in the 80s that day. During the heat wave, Washington, D.C., set a record for consecutive hours above 80 degrees and the heat wasn’t quite as bad (or anomalous) there as it was in New Jersey, according to Robinson.
