It’s Spring and time to bring out the chemicals to maintain that fine green lawn, right? Not necessarily! It’s possible to have that lush green lawn without all the chemicals. To achieve that, it requires a different set of tools, mainly a new understanding of the landscape as a whole living system.
The organic lawn pictured above illustrates what is possible using organic cultural practices. A 1-inch layer of compost was tilled into the soil prior to seeding. The clippings are never removed during mowing. A dark green, dense turf has been maintained without application of fertilizer or pesticides.
